THE TIMELESS HOUSE: A MID-CENTURY GEM

The Timeless House is an example of what you can do if you 'don't move, don't extend and just improve'.

The design process concluded that an extension would not improve our client's living arrangement in this 1960s, mid-century property in the heart of Knutsford.

Instead we took the decision to celebrate the original features throughout the home and retain key features such as the original timber clad ceiling which was cleaned, repined and retained. We converted the internal garage into an office and utility and opened up the main space to create broken plan living. We then gave every room an uplift.

Taken by the origins of the house, our client was keen to further intensify the brown tones with the use of cork flooring and new 60s style teak edged kitchen by Edge CNC. The kitchen is our collaborative interpretation of a modern mid-century style kitchen, which is the new heart of the house.

There was a focus on having sustainable floor throughout the ground floor, for this cork was chosen with underfloor heating.

Existing features such as the stair case balustrade detailing and large chimney and fire place remined untouched.

The success of this project was thanks to a patient, wonderful client with an aligned vision for their home, beautifully captured here by our friend and experienced architectural photographer Paul Karalius.
